Dream job

I was doing an exercise to find my dream job. I wrote down everything that interested me. Films, books, food, writing, etc. A few patterns started to emerge. Storytelling, world-building, organizing and creating. The dream is to be a writer, to tell stories that explore religion, politics, history. I also want to write non-fiction, cookbooks, reference books, lists that span entertainment, art, social sciences. On a practical side I want to be a business manager for an artistic organization. My favorite job I’ve had was assistant manager/office manager at an independent theater. The pay was little, but I enjoyed the process of choosing the films to play, helping with the film festival, and using my business education to analyze sales, attendance, and audience reaction.

Ideally, I would get a job in that field and supplement my income through writing. I would love to own a cafe/bookstore that would grow to include a theater and music venue.

Same sex marriage vote

If i could draw i would commemorate the same-sex marriage vote in New York by drawing Neil Armstrong’s moon walk with him wearing some fabulous heels on his spacesuit. This truly was a giant leap for mankind. Everyone has the right to love the one they want and be in a a committed, consensual relationship with whomever they want.

Same-sex marriage doesn’t weaken the sanctity of the institution, 50% divorce rates do. Cheating does. Besides if you use the Bible as the basis of your argument then you are saying that women should be the property of their husbands. How many modern Americans would support that position? Up unto the last 100-200 years, marriage was a business contract. Maybe the couple would come to love one another but it wasn’t required.

Only in recent times has love become the basis of marriage. Let’s face it, men will love men and women will love women. If they decide to enter into a committed relationship, who has any right to deny them.

As Sen. Mark Grisanti said, there is no legal reason to deny same-sex marriage. The only arguments opponents can muster is their bigotry backed up by ancient texts. The same texts they pick and choose which parts to believe and which to overlook.

Thank you Sen. Grisanti for having the wisdom and courage to do the right thing.  My thoughts are with you as you face the disapproving looks in your party and your church, but I know you will look them in the eye and show them how proud a man can be when he votes his conscience.
